The purpose of this work is to further extend the understanding of 8 zone SMB, a promising option for the resolution of ternary and pseudo-ternary mixtures that is based on a coupled cascade of two classical 4-zone SMB units. Yet there is still no consensus of which of these options best fulfills this task. This led to the development of many process alternatives aiming at ternary separations. However, as originally described, SMB is only capable of separating mixtures into two fractions – a major drawback for many industrially relevant applications. A particularly successful one is the Simulated Moving Bed (SMB) concept, a process that allows both uninterrupted production as well as efficient solid phase usage. Most of these cost limitations come from the batch nature of chromatography and, therefore, different strategies for continuous operation have. These costs are often related to large solvent consumption, product dilution, and the need for expensive adsorbers. The major obstacles for the application of chromatography in preparative scale separations are the high costs commonly associated with it. Utilising methods of content analysis and interviews, we set out to question which theory best describes the new landscape that the radio industry finds itself in, and how this is affecting the production of content received by the listening public. The cultural cringe is slowly disappearing, but what is replacing it has been the centre of cultural debate. Now with a maturing local industry that is becoming more confident in its own skin, this reliance on foreign industry is coming under question regarding its effect on indigenous culture.
Over the following decades, the radio industry has turned to the dominant Anglo-American players for guidance and inspiration. There is evidence emerging that instead of overwhelming dominance, there is a mixture of American as well as British influence.įoreign influence in the radio scene has been apparent since the time it became a popular addition to the New Zealand household in the 1920’s. This study sets out to investigate such claims by looking at music, and incorporating a study of technology, announcing and programming as well. Emerging consensus tends to suggest there is overwhelming American dominance of New Zealand radio in music.
